A superb Franco-Italian stage including a climb up the Col de la Lombarde, an Alpine border col which links the Tinée and Stura valleys.
Only a few larch trees, leftovers from a Chastillon valley formerly occupied by shepherds during the summer months, bear witness to what this site was before the creation of the Isola 2000 station.

Description

From the sanctuary, head up the little road which you took the previous day and which leads to the statue of Santa-Anna.

Continue via the track and then the path until you reach the intersection (2108m) with the Pas de Tesina which you took the previous day. Take the left fork to discover Lago Colle di Santa Anna, which you will go around via the left-hand side before rising via a few large hairpin bends which head across sizeable screes before coming out at a grassy secondary summit very close to the Cime de Moravachère.

Follow this wide shoulder towards the south-east, passing at times below on the Italian side and at others right along the border, which is given form by the typical markers. The gentle descent to Col de la Lombarde (2350m) takes place along a track on the Italian side of the border which passes between old buildings which have been renovated.

From the (m.100), head down the tarmacked road for a few hundred metres until marker 99. Then, follow the mainly flat path which heads across the rock face as well as across screes, reaching the top of the ski station (m.98).

From there, continue by going past the “barn” (m.98) and follow the markers between the larch trees to reach the first track.

Take the left fork to head up the steep slope; on the following track, which is wider, turn right and further down you will find the intersection with the Lacs de Terre Rouge path (m.91).

Head down to the right through the forest on the path and you will reach the top of the Isola 2000 station (m.90a) and on the right the little road which brings you to RM97.
