1. The 4 valleys circuit - Stura - Maira - Haute Tinée - Ubaye - Stage 1

From the village of Pontebernardo, cross the Val Ferriere mountain stream (1307m) and take the path with white and red markers which rises rapidly towards the col of Vallonetto. At Pra de la Montagnetta (hut) 2255m, turn left and head downhill to reach the col of Montagnetta 2178m. Continue downhill until you reach the crossroads with the Grande Traversée des Alpes path 1941m. The long climb towards the refuge follows the GTA markers, passes close to Oserot lake 2307m, to Rocca Brancia 2691m and finally Gardetta 2439m. Turn right at the col and stay on the track which heads slightly downhill, leading you to the Gardetta refuge 2337m.
