I Laghi della Brignola

From the Balma Mountain Hut (1,885 m), follow the dirt road toward the Brignola Lakes for a few dozen meters, until you reach Colletto Balma. At the wide saddle, the trail forks: ignore the right fork, which leads to Sella Pogliola and Passo delle Scalette, and take the fork that continues straight ahead (southwest) toward the Brignola Lakes.
The trail descends gently and cuts across the slopes of Monte Mondolè; pass a dirt trail to Sella Mierzè on your left and continue through pasture-covered slopes, crisscrossed by numerous gullies.
Following a semicircular path, you reach a new fork; on the right, a dirt road climbs toward Colletta Seirasso and Colla Rossa. Passing this fork, you reach the watershed of the Rio di Seirasso, through which a roaring little waterfall flows. Continuing downhill, you now enter a sparse larch forest and reach the vicinity of the Rio della Brignola.
Here, the road turns sharply to the south-southwest and climbs steeply up the left (orographic) slope of the valley. Near a mountain pasture with a sheet-metal roof, ignore the turnoff to the left for Colle Dente della Brignola and stay on the main dirt road. After passing the buildings at Sella della Brignola (1,930 m, 1 hour 20 minutes from the Balma Refuge, water fountain), a couple of turns and a long traverse through meadows and rhododendrons lead to a small clearing where the road ends.
Ignore the rutted dirt track that continues to the right and head down the trail to the left, crossing the small outlet of what used to be an old lake, now filled in. The trail skirts the northeastern shore of the old lake basin, then turns southwest and winds through boulder fields, meadows, and marshy terrain. After passing a second filled-in lake basin on the right, you reach the largest of the Brignola Lakes (2,134 m, 0:45 hours from the Sella della Brignola).
