Description

From the square in Valberg, reach the snow front (1680m marker. 9), the departure point of the planetary path. A wooden path leads to the sun then successively Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. Go past marker 10 and continue through the woods until the Lac du Sénateur where a wooden platform with binoculars will allow you to pick out the former observatories of Mont Mounier and Cime de l’Aspre (1748m marker 11). From Col Mary, continue along the rock face with several other stops along the way on the theme of stars, and you will reach the chalet/shelter of Ste-Marie, which is devoted to constellations. Continue along the track and just after marker 22, turn right onto the path which leads to the place called Les Anguillers (marker 24) and then Col du Raton (marker 126). A last climb along the path allows you to reach La Baisse du Barrot (marker 130 altitude 1961m), which signals the start of a long descent to the village of Guillaumes. The path descends rapidly, reaching the abandoned mining village of Amen (1353m marker 114). Cross the ruins of the village through the scrubland to reach marker 113. Head down towards the valley on the path on the left until you reach the next crossroads (marker 112). The path, which now passes along the rock face and still has the yellow rectangular markers, goes across the Tireboeuf valley via a stone bridge. There is a final descent to reach the track(CD16) (marker 111) and the D2202 roads at Pont des Roberts. Cross the road and the carpark, then continue along the track to the right (marker 13) towards Guillaumes.
