    Swiss mountain pine

    The scales of the cones from this species have hooked parts on them. Swiss mountain pine grow to 20 or 30 metres in height, they are present in many mountainous regions in Europe and they can live for up to 2000 years.
    The species stands over the Pissoun de Terres Pleines path. Coal tits and crested tits are omnipresent…but you ca n also try to spot the elegant treecreeper which hides its nest under bark removed from a dead tree.

    Alpine birdlife

    Take time out to stop; look around you and listen to the incredible diversity of birdlife which is present in the mountain pine forest along the Pissoun des Terres Blanches path: tree pipits, dunnocks, citril finches, ortolan buntings, common rock thrushes, black redstarts, northern wheatears...
    In this forest, coal tits and crested tits are omnipresent... but you can also try to spot the elegant Eurasian treecreeper which hides its nest under the detached bark of a dead tree.
