The Soria-Ellena Mountain Hut is named after two mountaineers, Edoardo Soria and Gianni Ellena, who were very active in the mountains of the Gesso Valley from the late 1920s through the 1940s and who established new routes on Corno Stella.

Owned by the Cuneo branch of the CAI, the mountain hut is a sturdy structure, partly built of exposed stone and partly plastered, with a metal roof. It was inaugurated on September 10, 1961.
Located within the Maritime Alps National Park, it is an ideal starting point for hikes and climbs in the Vallone Gesso della Barra.
