Rifugio Don Barbera 2089 m

Owned by the Marguareis Regional Nature Park, it is an Eco-Label certified facility recognized for its environmental stewardship and use of alternative energy sources.
The refuge, located in the heart of the protected area at Colle dei Signori, sits at the foot of the highest peak in the Ligurian Alps, Punta Marguareis, on the border between Piedmont, Liguria, and France. A world of mountains where you can already smell the sea... 
It is all the result of environments, cultures, and histories that, interacting with one another, give life to a unique and colorful landscape of plants, flowers, and endemic species, spread across a singular terrain that conceals a vast cave system. 

The Colle dei Signori has always been a key stop along ancient trade routes and salt trails. Thanks to its unique location, the mountain hut is accessible from the Pesio, Ellero, Tanaro, Roja, and Vermenagna valleys, making it a vital strategic point for numerous treks, crossings, and hikes. 
The refuge is part of the Giro del Marguareis, a splendid loop hike that traverses extremely distinctive karst landscapes and offers unforgettable scenery.
In recent years, with the opening of the so-called “Alta Via del Sale”—a former military road at high altitude connecting Colle di Tenda to Monesi—to motorized vehicles, the refuge has seen an increase in visitors.
