The current mountain hut was opened in 1991 to replace the old structure, which was destroyed by a fire in 1987.
The refuge is situated in the grassy basin of Pian del Lupo, in the heart of the Marguareis Regional Nature Park.
It lies along the Giro del Marguareis hiking trail, a destination for day hikes from Pian delle Gorre and a starting point for ascents of the Marguareis massif.

Practical informations
Opening: June 1 to September 30; other periods by reservation
Beds: 90 in nine dormitories with 6, 8, 10, 12, or 16 beds; a sleeping bag is required and can be rented on-site
Winter shelter: 12 beds equipped with blankets and pillows, where first-aid supplies and an emergency phone are also available; open during the facility’s closure periods.
Facilities: bar, dining, half-board, full-board for stays of more than two days
Cuisine: traditional, vegetarian, and gluten-free options; alternative menus available upon request
